Recently I was told that I, as a non-believer in Christianity, am NOT being tolerant and kind towards people of "faith". First of all, the word faith isn't synonymous with YOUR RELIGION. It means "...belief that is not based on proof...", and is so inaccurate as to facts that it shares a common theme with the word "illusion". It occurs to me that people in our society today still cling to mythology in many forms. The same kind of people who cling to mythology in the form of religion want to keep the whole of our society in a state of what some politicians say is "God's Will" which their own religious books tell them in scriptures like "...no man shall know the day nor the hour", that men don't know what God's will is. To say that you wholeheartedly believe in the bible because it is the word of God - kind of, is half measure type of faith, according to the bible itself. Most Christians don't believe everything written in the bible and despite their cafeteria style religious beliefs, are quite secular in most things. In example, most Christians don't believe in the Satanic church (the mythology of which was created IN the bible), Wicca, or Witchcraft, although the bible says things as in Deuteronomy 18 like "...9 “When you come into the land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations. 10 There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, 11 or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. 12 For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord your God drives them out from before you. 13 You shall be blameless before the Lord your God. 14 For these nations which you will dispossess listened to soothsayers and diviners; but as for you, the Lord your God has not appointed such for you." This would mean that the bible, which you consider "the word of God" and strictly a blanket reality, is telling you that witches and witchcraft exist. The idea that evil spirits, demons, sorcerers and necromancers are part of the society we live in in today's modern world of science and technology seems laughable to most of the world. You can't have things both ways. Either you believe your religion is true or you believe that it is full of fiction and that is the short version of the truth. It is NOT your choosing to believe in mythology that others take exception with. Those of us who are NOT believers in your religion are the ones who have to be tolerant with you and especially your politicians who abuse the use of your scriptures to define anything they want to say as "The Word of God" and this is just plain wrong. If you don't want your religion to be regarded by the rest of us as abusive towards others, then you will need to keep your members in check (including politicians who use the church to define themselves dishonestly as a "Good Person") and let them know perversion of your religion is not allowed by your church to be used as a tool to profit in the political environment. At that point, we non-believers have no problem with you believing in Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, or Santa Clause and the elves if you want.
