EDUCATION ATTRACTS LIBERAL MINDED PEOPLE:

Education attracts liberal minded people.

"Education attracts liberal minded people."
That is the Republican Bigots' Mantra lately. Bill O'Reilly can at least be applauded for speaking his mind, no matter how shallow and narrow it is. To people like him, I say, "Yeah, let's make sure all Americans are ignorant, uneducated people like you. You being the narrow minded bigot who doesn't realize that certain people are screwing over everyone who isn't rich in America because they can't get away with screwing you, because as we all know, you people can afford REAL LEGAL REPRESENTATION and not have to worry about the same level of unfairness as the rest of us."

First of all, let's look at this statement word by word. I am going to ITALICIZE the ones that apply to my point here.

Education:  (From dictionary.com - the first three definitions, please read the first one carefully)
1. the act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgment, and generally of preparing oneself or others intellectually for mature life.2. the act or process of imparting or acquiring particular knowledge or skills, as for a profession.
3.  a degree, level, or kind of schooling: a university education.

Attracts: (From dictionary.com)
1. to draw by a physical force causing or tending to cause to approach, adhere, or unite; pull ( opposed to repel ): The gravitational force of the earth attracts smaller bodies to it.
2. to draw by appealing to the emotions or senses, by stimulating interest, or by exciting admiration; allure; invite: to attract attention; to attract admirers by one's charm.
Liberal: (From dictionary.com)
1. favorable to progress or reform, as in political or religious affairs.
2. ( often initial capital letter ) noting or pertaining to a political party advocating measures of progressive political reform.
3. of, pertaining to, based on, or advocating liberalism.
4. favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, especially as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties.
5. favoring or permitting freedom of action, especially with respect to matters of personal belief or expression: a liberal policy toward dissident artists and writers.

Minded: (From dictionary.com)
1. having a certain kind of mind (usually used in combination): strong-minded.
2. inclined or disposed.

People: (From dictionary.com, the noun form of the word)
1. persons indefinitely or collectively; persons in general: to find it easy to talk to people; What will people think?
2. persons, whether men, women, or children, considered as numerable individuals forming a group: Twenty people volunteered to help.
3. human beings, as distinguished from animals or other beings.
4. the entire body of persons who constitute a community, tribe, nation, or other group by virtue of a common culture, history, religion, or the like: the people of Australia; the Jewish people.
5. the persons of any particular group, company, or number (sometimes used in combination): the people of a parish; educated people; salespeople.

So, the statement as I read it, in my humble opinion, actually means something different than I am sure Mr. O'Reilly and the people who consider themselves the "Traditional Establishment", or our "Ruling Class", think they are saying, but is literally saying that, "The act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgment, and generally of preparing oneself or others intellectually for mature life, as well as the act or process of imparting or acquiring particular knowledge or skills, draws by appealing to the emotions or senses, by stimulating interest, or by exciting admiration, people who have a certain kind of mind that is inclined or disposed to progress or reform, as in political or religious affairs, people who are favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, especially as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties and people who are favoring or permitting freedom of action, especially with respect to matters of personal belief or expression, as in a liberal policy toward dissident artists and writers. AND THOSE ARE: persons indefinitely or collectively; persons in general, persons, whether men, women, or children, considered as numerable individuals forming a group, and any human beings, as distinguished from animals or other beings, the entire body of persons who constitute a community, tribe, nation, or other group by virtue of a common culture, history, religion, or the like, and the persons of any particular group, company, or number.
In other words, ANYBODY BUT YOU. Selfish much?

Imagine If You Can...

Those of us who remember "The Beatles" song by John Lennon, "Imagine", remember the lyrics as being some unattainable fantasy, "... Imagine there's no countries, It isn't hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
And no religion too,
Imagine all the people living life in peace,

You, you may say
I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world

You, you may say
I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will live as one..."

In this world we have a set of rules, and some people intentionally break those rules to allow themselves to have nothing but pure hate for others, with a good dose of greed that overshadows any knowledge or common sense. If you will, imagine this:
1) A world without News Corps and people like that paying idiots like Bill O'Reilly, Shawn Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Karl Rove, and the rest of the conspiracy theorist morons to spread their delusions that Jon Stewart so politely calls "a bubble" that they choose to live in instead of reality.
2) A world where people who actively have problems, whether financial, employment wise, housing, food, or other needs could actually be addressed as human beings who need help instead of treated like the "surplus population that should do us all a favor by dying" that was stated in "The Christmas Carol" with solutions that didn't include having to lie to the government to get around restrictions that no one could qualify for, so as to disclude anyone who actually needed help that didn't have their problems tattooed on their forehead.
3) Imagine a world where when you hear news, it was actually because it was a story about something that happened without opinion or "extra details" that never happened.
4) Imagine a law that all politicians and news media sources would actually receive a HUGE FINE if they lie to you about anything and were caught for it.
5) Imagine a world where Freedom of the Press didn't mean invasion of privacy at any cost, including hacking into your personal phone calls in order to report a story.
It is always an excuse that "people are human" as if that means we are not responsible for our own actions or speech and that we aren't capable of being good to one another.
This is something that you don't have to imagine, that all of those things I listed will have to be first before the Utopia that John Lennon "imagined" for all of us, will ever have a chance to come to be, because some of us are more "human" than others.

Another Letter To John McCain

I just wrote this letter to Senator John McCain at his contact page. I suggest everyone in Arizona or anyone who is disgusted with his recent antics trying to grandstand over Libya when we all know Darrell Issa refused to fund requests from the White House to beef up security for our Ambassadors. He can be contacted at http://www.mccain.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Contact.contactform .
"When I was in the sixth grade, I took a class called Social Studies. Most Americans have been in the sixth grade and graduated. One section of that class was on U.S. Civics. The thing that stands out in my mind right now is this one part. We learned that there are three branches of government. One is the Executive (presidents, governors, mayors, etc.), the second is the Legislative (like state senates and congress), and the third one is Judicial (the court). In this country there has been a series of immature ranting in congress instead of doing their jobs. I will admit some is on both sides. The problem is that Your Party is part of the legislative branch that thinks they can make laws and pass legislation and then blame it on the Executive Branches when something goes wrong with the way they wrote the law. The past presidential and term election showed that most people are tired of this. Mitch McConnell is on his way out in the next midterm election. Somehow Joe Arpaio got reelected but once the bluehairs in Sun City die out or get wise, he is gone, also. Jan Brewer and the rest of the Tea Party Nazis are living on borrowed time, politically. They are not going to be here another term. Changing your packaging instead of your product will no longer work. Siding with morons like Lindsey Graham will cost you your job. AS YOU KNOW, SINCE YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN ATTENDING, DARREL ISSA VOTED AGAINST REQUESTS FROM THE WHITE HOUSE TO INCREASE SECURITY FUNDING FOR OUR AMBASSADORS. NOW HE IS LEADING THE CHARGE TO INVESTIGATE THE WHITE HOUSE FOR FAILING TO PROTECT OUR AMBASSADOR IN LIBYA. THIS IS NOW PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE. When you should be trying to fix the job situation, you do this. Do you really think we aren't paying attention?  Normally I sign off like a legal form and say "respectfully submitted" that fails to be relevant right now. Quit acting like children and fix the job situation."

The Evil Corporate World

I keep hearing over and over for the past forty years how the big corporate stores come in and take over because they have "corporate money" backing them (I see we are talking about the same distinction types as when recently, the Republicans tried to define "legitimate rape") but money is money. That is how franchises start. Someone making a smaller profit takes business away when you were only trying to buy that fifth SUV or pay for your kids to go that fancy local private school, then I really don't find a lot of sympathy for you. But like most people, small businesses who only think small are not in it for the long haul and the consumer, not the businesses, drive the market. Here is the article I posted on FACEBOOK today:
"...This sounds like an Andy Hardy movie (sorry for the reference that might age some of us). "We can put on a play, dad will let us use the barn, mom can sew the costumes, and EVERYONE IN TOWN WILL PAY TO SEE IT."  Sorry, BUT, ...that would be wonderful if the economy didn't suck so bad. Poor people are forced to resort to buy things they need from large corporate stores like Walmart, K-mart, and Target. I am only surprised that no one talks about all of them instead of just the "EVIL WALMART" who started out as one of those small businesses you talk about but sold goods cheaper and then became huge to meet the demand for goods and services in this economy. If the local "wonderful small business" merchants you speak of could sell things at a competitive price (first off, they wouldn't stay small) we wouldn't even be having this conversation. In reality, when you talk to people like that, they think small and want it all now. forcing you to pay more, instead of working on return business by providing a quality product at a smaller price. That is what makes small businesses become the size of Walmart.  Back when we all lived on a farm or out in the woods somewhere, this idea would have made sense. BUT THIS SHOULD HAVE STARTED IN THE SIXTIES before all this other corporate stuff took root. In larger more industrial type cities all there is anymore are corporate businesses and thrift shops. The little guy who worked out of his house can only be found on the internet and can't be expected to keep up with the demand for goods and services. SOME GUY working out of his house, isn't going to be able to provide what Walmart, Target, K-mart, or even the dollar stores (which are corporate franchises, also, with private owners like most bigger places)  does. I used to hear the same complaint from my then "brother in law", who was an appliance salesman, when Circuit City and Fry's Electronics came to town. "We can't lower our prices to compete." Well then, I guess you don't really want to compete, do you?
This is a wonderful idea although not feasible, I have heard people say this for years, but when it comes down to it. most "small businesses" who stay small are because they don't buy in bulk, take risks, and make a profit on long range from quantity of customers, compared to the guy who still sells for twice as much because he has developed business through a few rich people who still pay more to come to him.
What you are asking the consumer is to pay more instead of asking businesses to sell for less. They can't afford that fifth SUV they wanted or their kids' private school selling competitively. That is what free market means. Most Americans in business want to become rich, that doesn't make them all wrong. Walmart hires people who would not regularly have a job anywhere else then gets blamed for paying them low wages to where they are on food stamps. Most of those people couldn't find a job anywhere else, if they could, why are they working under those conditions? Most of them don't say so but many of them were on food stamps when they started working there."  Don't blame the corporate world for making money, that is what businesses are supposed to do.

Is Rachel Maddow Following Me?

I am sure it is just a coincidence that to me, it seems that every time I start a new blog post, Rachel Maddow seems to hit the same topic in the same cycle at the most, two or three days later. She and I have common subjects having to do with people in the Republican and Democratic parties that we both seem to consider "evil" down to the bone. There are so many things that most people don't seem to know or care about that it seems, at least, that most people who follow politics are in five main categories.
1) Both parties have people who make a lot of noise, are rude, jump the gun and become offended before actually investigating some things so it seems that they have to constantly apologize and revise everything they complain about to fit the actual situation. I know some of these people personally, and I don't ever see them apologize in their personal lives, they seem to be oblivious to the fact that being an asshole is offensive.
2) There is the informed compassionate person who gets excited about things that "might happen someday" without realizing that it isn't important to be incensed about something that hasn't and may never happen.
3) The person who likes to make people angry. It doesn't matter what you talk about, they argue as if they know something. When you take a person like this aside, they actually seem to believe that they have some form of "cosmic mission" that they are obligated to perform that "keeps everyone on their toes" but actually must makes people avoid them.
4) The person who is the constant victim, who is sure he is right about everything and never can fathom he is human and might be wrong. Most of these people have the same problem. They either 1. rely on authority figures, 2. they think in terms of how they were raised and how everything relates to their own experience only, or 3. they can't get it through their head that their facts could be wrong because they believe the sources that they trust implicitly. (These are the first three blocks to critical thinking.)
5) The kind of person who develops an ideology based on facts and research, lots of reading, lots of study into both sides of each issue, and is always open to reading or investigating a new approach or ideology when it comes along to make sure that it doesn't conflict with his previous ideas.
Some have more than one of these qualities. Right now the most victimized of the number four category, mixed with the "misinformed" part of number two - and are the people who have several things in common with the kind of person who pays to go to bad play. They don't want to admit that someone suckered them into buying a ticket to a play that they were told by most of the civilized world and that actually went to see it when it first came out, that the play really sucked. They don't want to have to admit, "Oh, alright, you told me it sucked and I know there wasn't really any good reason for me to go and listen when I knew it would be awful but I did it anyway." So, they instead tell you that they really enjoyed it, you can tell they have spent hours rehearsing how they are going to tell you that they liked it and have a list of things they thought up to tell you that they liked, even though, as you look into their face, you can tell they are lying to you because they can't admit to themselves that they volunteered to allow themselves to get gouged.
That is how some people are about candidates for office, also. Remember that the next time you want to vote for a party, not a candidate. The person in the party is the important part, not their partisanship.

The American Media

I keep hearing about how the "left wing media" or "liberal media" which I consider "mainstream media" is lying to people. Calling Fox News reality and then saying that everything else is "liberal or left wing" is the problem. I am tired of the mainstream being too politically correct or polite to call them on their B.S. Why, if there are people out there like Rachel Maddow, Lawrence O'Donnell, or Chris Mathews, is there even a single other mainstream news reporter who let's them get away with lying to themselves. It is high time this country's liberals became more forceful and aggressive with right wing people over the fact that they are WRONG. The idea that, as I keep hearing, they are "ideologically" or "fundamentally" harboring some ideas that are even considered "debatable" makes me want to hurl.
When it takes Megyn Kelly to confront Karl Rove on the fact that he tells himself things as a Republican to make himself feel better, when in fact, anyone with half a brain can see that there are statisticians and educated polling people who actually do the research and have accurate numbers. My feeling is this. They, the pundits and "analysts" or "strategists" make a lot of money trying to, at least, ACT LIKE they can buy or influence a win on any election. Both parties include the campaign contribution set up that comes in our emails. I used to subscribe to one of the Democratic party news letters. They always ended all pleas to sign a petition with a webpage redirect to a page that was begging for a money to win an election partisan issue. I finally started emailing them back before I unsubscribed and told them exactly this:
"Why would you need money to get legislation approved or denied? Are you planning on bribing a congressman with the money? That is the only way money will change legislation when parties are decidedly partisan in their views? What are you going to buy that is going to help? Air time to try to fight ads that lie about the Democratic Party? Because that would be stupid, as the kind of people who believe those ads don't listen to facts, reason, explanations, nor do they have any reasonable form of ethics. They only know how to follow the authority figures they have chosen for themselves, because those politicians find out what these people want to hear and tell it to them, despite the fact that it is a lie. They give them hope that someday, failed economics policies and tax cuts will somehow miraculously work when anyone who has studied math can tell them it's ridiculous. Then they vote backwards thinking policies into legislation and then try to blame the governor or president for what they did. I know these people must have graduated from grammar school, where they explained the three branches of government - Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. Executive doesn't pass laws, although they can propose them. Only the Legislative branch can pass "legislation", not the president or governor.
I would love to hear someone from CNN or CBS actually look one of them in the eye and say, "Why would we want to try that again?" or "That has been proven to be wrong so why do you keep bringing that up? Are you trying to destroy the country???"
It seems few mainstream journalists have the guts to confront the Tea Party people on anything. Being crazy and lying to one's self is not a skill. It is not an ideology. It isn't a "kind of" inaccurate "form of the truth" because there is no grey area on that one. It is either real and true OR NOT. Why can't our mainstream media do their job and "Just say No!" to all the BS? That is what is dividing our country. Telling people who are mistaken that they are merely fundamentally different, instead of telling them that they are wrong, is what makes them think that their ignorance is equal to other peoples' knowledge. It allows them to decide that if they make something up and tell themselves that things are that way, then, life will change and will become the way conservatives want life to be.

Conservative Blacks

I want to first say that this is NOT about the majority of black people I know. The majority that I actually know are people from all walks of life, I am talking about a specific phenomena that I see. Somehow the slave master's religion because a sign of being equal to a lot of black people in the U.S., despite the fact that the bible not only condones slavery but also gives instructions on how to keep and punish (beat) one's slaves. They seem to have found different religions that shunned them for centuries as a proving ground for their independence and freedom. They also found something to cling to while being treated like second class citizens and discriminated against for strength. Recently a neighbor lady, who happens to be a black woman, brought me a typing/editing job for a guy who is a friend of hers. He is not only Born Again, he is the supposed leader of a church of a type. This is what I have learned in the short time I have worked with this man. In reading what he gave me to write, I found that he is the most egotistical, illiterate (can't spell and talks in broken English he invented to make himself feel literate), conceited (thinks he is God's Gift To Women), backwards thinking man I have had the displeasure of knowing in a while. The problems are multiples and make me want to ask who the hell he thinks he is. The first thing is that I do NOT subscribe to the belief that men are the caretakers of women. Saying that he "kind of" has several families of children with several different women, all of which he took advantage of while they were young, doesn't excuse the fact that he doesn't know how to keep his d**k in his pants and tries to say it is all the fault of the devil or the women involved. I do not think a man who constantly cheats on his spouse or significant other is someone of virtue and deserves to be respected until he admits what he did was wrong and starts trying to be different. But he has FOUND JESUS, so everything he has done or is doing is acceptable even though he has to hire me to rewrite his memoirs of younger years, because he is too uneducated to do this himself and is too lazy to learn. He is also willfully ignorant and extremely immature, but thinks clinging to religion fixes all that. He is not afraid to do whatever it takes to make money (especially lying to himself) and usually seems to have lots of it, but talks about those things as if they are "the tools of the devil". When are Christians going to quit using the "Flip Wilson Defense" as a reason for everything they actually do? My feeling is, "If you are planning to do the same thing again tomorrow, are you really sorry for what you did yesterday?" Does you calling yourself a "man of God" really absolve you from your past if you haven't made some form of amends to the people you actually harmed? And when is the Christian community going to realize that calling yourself a blessed by Jesus type individual doesn't allow you to treat others with a lack of compassion for their problems?

What really amazed me is that this is a black man who thinks everyone voted for the president because he is black instead of actually admitting the option was John McCain and Sarah Palin, that both scared the hell out of anyone with a brain. With all the things that the United States is doing to move forwards, some people still want to cling to that bullshit. They can't admit that they nominated candidates that were the worst form of American to represent their parties. McCain openly admitted he was one of those people who needed someone to "help him" with his email and when asked a question, instead of answering, told us another, "My Friends," speech about Vietnam. Sarah Palin said some of the most ignorant, outlandish things one could pile in one sentence. Her Katie Couric interview finished her. When she answered, "I will have to get back to you on that", after making the stupidest WRONG remark during her whole campaign, as if it was a "take home" interview, I realized right then that if the world was on the verge of destruction and she was the one in charge, I didn't want to see the outcome.

When are conservatives going to realize that their ignorance doesn't stand up to someone else's knowledge? SAYING JESUS DOESN'T EXCUSE THAT.What part of that is so hard for them to understand? Why, after the Democratic party was accused of being un-American for not praising their savior, G.W. Bush, the guy whose administration got us into two wars that they still haven't admitted or apologized for on false pretenses and ruined the economy out of selfishness and greed, completely running on the Carl Rove type ego, are they now bitching and whining while the people with math skills and brains are fixing things?

NOT ALL of the people who have run as Republicans (it seems in order to go with their traditional family party instead of the classic beliefs of Republicans) have been ignorant candidates but Republican Voters seem to cling only to the worst, most ignorant ones who talk about God while making insane statements. When they have an intelligent candidate, such as John Huntsman, who made the mistake of saying that science and nature were real during the Republican Candidate Debates, their party shuns him in search for someone who talks about the bible instead of displaying knowledge.

This shows that the majority of conservatives would rather believe in Ancient Mythology from a religious book instead of realizing that it is a book of moral code analogies to give people an idea how to treat each other, not the law. Someday their ignorance will be the death of them. One at a time they are going to self destruct while taking a curious look at the problem and they will either change or die from shock. This is what I want to say to the majority of them.

RELIGION DOESN'T EXPLAIN OR EXCUSE ANYTHING THAT IS PROVABLE IN THE REAL WORLD.
PEOPLE LIKE MIKE HUCKABEE AND PAT ROBERTSON ARE WILLFULLY IGNORANT AND BLINDED BY EGO, MONEY, PROPERTY, AND PRESTIGE. THEY BOTH, AT LEAST, USED TO DO RELIGION AS A BUSINESS BECAUSE THEY LEARNED TO LIE TO YOU FOR A LIVING.
FOX NEWS IS LYING TO YOU, AND HAS FOUND YOUR WEAK SPOTS AND WILL CONTINUE TO KEEP YOU IGNORANT AS LONG AS YOU VOTE FOR PEOPLE WHO WILL KEEP RUPERT MURDOCH FROM PAYING INCOME TAX THAT HE SHOULD AS HIS FAIR SHARE.
SAYING THAT YOU ARE SAVED BY JESUS, BATHED IN THE BLOOD OF JESUS, OR ANY OTHER ANALOGY FOR SAYING THAT EVERYTHING YOU DO IS EXCUSABLE(forgiven) IS BULLSHIT!
MATH AND SCIENCE ARE REAL. LEARN THEM, GROW UP, AND GET A REAL LIFE.
IF YOU KEEP DOING WHAT YOU ARE DOING, YOU ARE GOING TO KEEP GETTING WHAT YOU ARE GETTING. MOVE ON.
THE DICTIONARY VERSION OF CONSERVATIVE IS: "...disposed to preserve existing conditions, institutions, etc., or to restore traditional ones, and to limit change." IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT TO BE KNOWN AS?

So, conservative America, either grow up or be left behind because this nation is growing in a FORWARD DIRECTION and NOW, the majority of us are proud of it. There, I said it.

And those of you who want to secede (...to withdraw formally from an alliance, federation, or association, as from a politicalunion, a religious organization, etc.) from the union, even though you have shown that you don't even know how to spell the word, PLEASE GO, we won't miss you in the least.

Their Heads Are Exploding

One has to be careful trying to teach conservatives something new, the result could be frightening.
Their recent lessons are taking a while to sink in, it seems. The fact that they are WRONG, not just kind of have a different opinion, is the problem for most of them. Right now they are still trying to fathom that Fox News and all the other right wing propaganda machine personalities have been lying to them for "campaign donations" for years.
A) For the past two elections, money and lying didn't buy the election. Despite every dirty trick, including voter suppression, telling people they could vote by phone, throwing away provisional ballots, rigging voting machines, trying to pander to minorities using every dirty trick imaginable and they still lost the election. They are trying to fathom that one first.
B) They don't understand why saying one thing to sound correct while doing something completely the opposite last week isn't going to be accepted by anyone who thinks critically. (IF you are having trouble yourself with the definition for that one, see this previous post.)
C) They have been proven completely wrong over and over and instead of admitting it, they create a conservative bubble to live in called Fox News, Conservapedia, the Rush Limbaugh Show, the Glenn Beck Show, and many more who lie to them in order to make them feel better. Even Megan Kelly on the eve of the election confronted Karl Rove on the excuses he kept spouting. Her response was priceless. She had asked earlier in the evening before the election was final, as Rove kept spouting numbers no one else had, "Is that the math that you do as a Republican to make yourself feel better or are those real numbers?"
I can understand Rove's fear and anxiety. Think about it. If you had just promised Sheldon Adelson, who is connected through the actual Chinese mob from China, not just street gangs here in the U.S., that you can guarantee that if you gave him several million dollars that your candidate who will vote for your bigger tax cuts will SURELY BE ELECTED, you might be kind of nervous.
I can understand Rove's over confidence, after cheating in both the 2000 and 2004 elections and getting away with it, he thought they would have this one in the bag. The problem for Republican strategists is that they keep trying to find a new sales gimmick to sell the same old ideas. These ideas don't work, have been proven to be nonsense, and instead of honestly dealing with issues their ideas depend on the voters being uninformed enough to be afraid of everything and everyone around them that they don't understand. SO, they just don't understand why this worked during perfect conditions in the fifties, but it won't work now.
The fact is that they never worked. Supply side spending is a theory that in actual practice depends on ideal conditions. The population not increasing, the cost of living not going up, no one getting sick or disabled, wages rising, jobs being at a surplus with no unemployment. health care and other cost of living costs not going up, and everyone having the ability to save enough money to buy a home at fifties prices. Those conditions have never existed and never will. But they keep trying to sell them like a snake oil salesman who is selling the same product for one hundred years. If it didn't work the first time, or even the ten or so times I tried it afterwards on your insistence of it's guaranteed results, then why would I trust you again?
The biggest problem is this. Economic policies are just the smoke and mirror part of the GOP. Their real agenda is to be in control of everyone's personal lives and institute rules that would try to make most Americans subservient and put us under authoritarian rule. They want to repeal rights for minorities, women, and anyone who believes in equal fair treatment and compassion for those who are in unfortunate circumstances. I wouldn't bother to write this if I didn't think it would matter but we need the GOP, the politicians and voters, to understand that they really need to go back to the drawing board and figure out what works before they come up with ideas based on economics that favor only the rich.
The other thing is that they need severely to root out the poisons that have befallen their "fellowship" that call for extremist political moves demanded by certain parts of their party who organized outside the Republican party and now want to take over. Pandering for those people's votes will continue to keep them being seen as "The Party of Un-Reasonableness and Fear Based Ignorance". That would mean silencing Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and the entire right wing propaganda force that would be too lengthy to list here, you know who I mean.

In Response to the Intense Whining of the Right Wing

Some guy sent my cousin an email with a bunch of ignorant propaganda slogans on it as if he believes it, and it occurred to me that this poor person might actually be that ignorant of the truth because of the propaganda through right wing media that has gripped a lot of the nation.  Here is what he said and my replies.

Congratulations to the Democrats, Hispanics and Young People that voted
for Obama!   **** Everyone came out to vote. Rigged Voting Machines, voter suppression tricks, telling people the wrong day to vote, Robocalls telling older people they could vote by phone, all of the dirty tricks Karl Rove and the rest of the Republican election stealers could pull, including lying ads run day and night on all channels, and they still lost because EVERYONE KNOWS BETTER NOW. We all came out to vote and that is why you lost.

The next terrorist attack, you own it.  ****
The Bush administration was warned two weeks in advance about Bin Laden attacking using planes as missiles and did nothing
about it, so your party, YOU OWN IT.

Can't get a job after graduation? you own it.  ****
The same people crashed our economy with two wars that we couldn't afford on credit and then gave tax cuts to the rich which didn't produce any jobs and caused the biggest crash in the stock market, housing market, mortgage market, and private banking in eighty years through deregulation of business ethics laws that got us in the mess we are only half way through recovering from, So your party, YOU OWN IT. The first thing Republicans in congress want to do every election season is talk about education but when elected they cut education budgets and give the money to military spending for things we don't need to supply the "military industrial complex" that is owned by a few politicians who make money from war and try to keep us in some foreign country killing OUR children while keeping theirs at home.

Sky rocketing energy prices due to Obama's EPA shutting down the energy
producing states?  you own it.  **** Gas has gone down and the only reason it went up was greedy Wall Street speculators but the president got that under control. That was false, also. Obama isn't the inspector for the EPA the federal organization that is in charge of pollution.

A nuclear Iran? you own it.  **** President Obama put the strongest sanctions on Iran ever. So that was also false.

Bowing to the Saudi King and Russia? you own it.  ****
First, diplomacy means you have to meet with foreign countries and follow their customs. Ronald Reagan brought the Taliban to the White House and said they were essentially like our founding fathers and then gave them stinger missiles to fight the Russians and bring them down financially and George Bush decided to fall into the same trap we set for the Russians and they shot the same stinger missiles at us.   Reagan with the Taliban.

Bush with Russians:

Bush bowing the Saudi King.

Bush kissing the Saudi King that the Bush family calls Uncle Bandar Bush.

Another severe recession, you own it.  ****
You own this one, so what is this "another one" about? We are still paying off Reagan's over spending. Maybe you ought to read up on that - you don't seem to know anything about U.S. history. When we create a recession, we will own it and not try to blame it on someone else but try and fix the problem, not do the same things harder and more often or try to prevent recovery to blame the executive branch for what the legislative branch did.

A volatile border with Mexico, you own it.  ****  Bush selling us out to the Mexican government to allow thousands of illegals in the U.S. to work for slave labor. The drug cartels were allowed in to transport workers for Katrina and decided they can do anything they want after that.

Trouble getting good health care, you own it.  **** Obamacare is actually Romneycare with provisions from John McCain, you were lied to about that, also.

Higher heath insurance costs and health care costs, you own it.  ****  No, it is saving money and reducing the deficit.

No budget, you own it.  **** What does that even mean? That was the stupidest comment yet. There HAS TO BE A BUDGET EVERY YEAR.

Our allies mistrust, you own it.  ****  The world thinks we are stupid because Mitt Romney went around the world insulting people. George Bush only wanted to negotiate with people he thought had oil or that he thought he could control and pissed off everyone else. Did you see the Republican candidate debates? Would you trust any of those guys if you were a foreign country?

Another few trillion of debt, you own it. **** Never going to happen. Where do you get this bullshit, Fox News? They were proven to be liars during this whole election campaign and then they refused to admit their numbers were all wrong on the polls that they lied to you about.

More Benghazi situations, you own it.  ****  This is just stupid. It was an attack against us, not a scandal. Nine eleven happened on the Bush admins watch after he had been warned by the FBI in a memo about Bin Laden.

No one willing to join the military, you own it.  **** Hiring Blackwater Security for billions a month was a good idea? We don't have any wars to fight right now, we don't need a military industrial complex.

Trouble getting a loan to buy a home, you own it.  ****  Now you are just making shit up you whiney asshole.

More dependency on food stamps, you own it.  ****  Dependency? There has been a lot of people unemployed and disabled during the past twelve years. Yeah, they depend on FOOD to live, you dumbass, what are you talking about? That was stupider yet.

Trouble finding good employment, you own it.  ****  Unemployment is going down, you are being fed bullshit on that one, also. Check the Department of Labor Statistics.

Several part time jobs instead of a good job, you own it.  ****  No, that happened through your right wing corporate stooge union busting  Republicans who want to turn this into a third world country but they got voted out this election.

A World Government, you own it.  ****  Boy, you are really grasping at sand, desperate for anything to say, just blithering like a little school girl who lost her dolly.

The UN governing the United States instead of ourselves, you own it. **** Never happened, not going to, none of them in the U.S. like Rick Perry said, that was proven to be a lie.

A Senate that will not bring any legislation to the table rather it is
"Dead on Arrival", you own it.   ****  NO, that is called Republicans in the house blocking legislation because they act like you do. Childish assholes.

China controlling our world trade and trampling all over us, you own it.
Citizens United put through legislation through the Supreme Court against the will of average people that allows this and George Bush's congress added tax loopholes and credits for people who outsource jobs to help with costs of relocation but instead they hired foreign workers for a few dollars an hour.

Loss of our freedoms as we have known them in the past, you own it.  ****  The patriot act will be repealed, your party owned that.

A dictatorship instead of a democracy that follows the Constiution, you
own it.  ****  I won't even dignify this other than say this is bullshit and you know it. I won't even go into what word you misspelled. Do you write signs for the Tea Party?

Less take home pay and higher living costs, you own it.  ****  Your party started that with the union busting and corporatism (first step of fascism).

Driving a car that looks like a toy, you own it.  **** Are you really this stupid? If you actually gave a shit about America, then, you would be more concerned about emissions and pollution than what some economy cars look like.

More government corruption and lies, you own it. **** Karl Rove (turd blossom), the entire Nixon Administration, FAUX NEWS, Ryan, Romney, and just about everyone in the Republican party is a bunch of liars. If nothing else they are lying to themselves.

More toleration of extreme and fanatical Islamists, you own it.  ****  We are a nation of many cultures and religions, get over it.

Terrorist attacks called work place incidents, you own it.  ****  Now you are just making up nonsense that doesn't even make any sense.

Revenge instead of love of country, you own it.  ****  (BOO HOOO! You don't love America  like we do!  BOO HOO!)  You know what, you love America like a child for a grownup, put it on a pedestal and act like it is perfect, trying to remember it as something it never was or will be from a time that never happened.
We love America like a parent to a child, realizing it has flaws and is growing but with direction and progressive changes, it will become strong and something we can all be proud of again.

President George Bush is out of it now, and there is not another good man
for you to vilify and lie about. In a way I am relieved that another good
man will not be blamed when it was impossible to clean up this mess you
voted for.  **** By that logic, Barack Obama is out of it now. Yesterday doesn't count, right? So if I shit on you and say, Well that was the past, it doesn't matter, tomorrow, then am  I being responsible for my own actions? Fuck no, you don't get to say, "Kings X on our past, it doesn't count!" When George Bush and Dick Cheney take responsibility for allowing Karl Rove to talk them into starting two wars in countries that didn't attack us and created this whole financial mess, then we can talk about finances, but until then, you better not even bring the subject up because facts are facts, tomorrow or whenever and you don't get to act like your past doesn't count, you history revisionist idiot.

Have a good day.  ****  I am having a fine day because America is now back on a track towards the future instead of backwards the way Romney, Ryan, and the rest of the RAPE NUTS wanted to take it.

God bless the United States of America! ****  He did on the sixth.

God is our hope now.***  But he gave us brains to use, and to think critically with. The bible most of you conservatives cling to, says that he also gave man the power of choice. We are responsible for the entire earth. If you want to wait for some cosmic monkey to bring your food through the key hole while you wait, you go ahead. See, you are the one dependent on your leaders, not us. You lose an election, you have a fit, your ideology doesn't work so your head explodes. But I am going to keep working on improving this country through civil discourse using practical solutions, not rhetoric and propaganda. The only way we will come together is to talk on a common ground but we must all get our feet on the ground to do that. We must logically look at the problems and solve them with new solutions.

If you have integrity, nothing else matters. If you don't have integrity,
nothing else matters. -- Benjamin Franklin ****   I have another quote for you that I think applies here.

"...There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”..."

Will the GOP Voters Ever Figure it Out???

The GOP is finally trying to figure out what they did wrong. Trying the same thing harder and faster didn't work. "Hall of Fame"-er Reggie Jackson actually said that the best presidency would be Obama for president and Romney for vice president. Think about,"How logical does that sound?" I don't know about you but to me, that sounds desperate. The media is trying to say anything but what the problem is. Some of the mainstream are talking today about the "demographic problem" with the Latino voters who turned out in outstanding numbers because of what the media is calling a demographic problem. I am sure Mitt Romney pandering to a crowd of mostly Latino voters wearing face make-up that was dark brown didn't help that one.

The mainstream media doesn't want to state the obvious. It isn't a TYPE OF PEOPLE that Romney and the rest of the main GOP candidates don't find a relation with. IT IS PEOPLE IN GENERAL. The media can't - like you and I can, just come right out and say, "You are backwards thinking, low priority, pandering, lying, offensive assholes."
It didn't take people long to figure out that Romney and Ryan were promising to do in ten years what they were blaming the president for not making come true in four. You would think after a while (the past 50 plus years) that they would be logical enough to figure it out. Liberal leaning media tries to explain that the GOP demographic is only one type of person. They try to tell the GOP that the rich white guy is the only one their candidates are going to appeal to. As in the cases of Warren Buffet and Bill Gates, that doesn't hold true. The problem is their lack of ideological significance to the average humane person of any sex or type of person who isn't a rich person who is kind of shady. Their whole political strategy is to promote these ideas:
  1. WE HAVE TO WIN AT ANY COST
  2. WE ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN LIBERALS,
  3. WE ARE MORE MORAL THAN LIBERALS,
  4. WE HAVE GOD ON OUR SIDE,
  5. OUR POLICIES ARE BETTER,
  6. OUR IDEALS ARE BETTER,
  7. NEW IDEAS ARE BAD FOR YOU
Does this sound like the same thing said by anyone in the past that you know of?

and the fact of the matter is that their policies, especially the ones concerning economics have already been proven to be SHIT. Their ideologies about people suck and are exclusive towards certain types of people, but they want everyone to vote for them. This year they once again tried to sell the idea that the George Bush type of economic strategy would work, maybe, this time. They don't want to believe that everyone else, including ex-Republicans (what I call recovering conservatives) this year spoke out in a call for rational thinking economic strategies and all inclusive social policies. One can't help think of the insanity of the alcoholic personality that is described as, "Repeatedly taking the same action, while each time expecting different results."  They think THIS TIME we are going to believe them. NOT
I want to interject something here. This is where the rich white guys (or the richest any color of guys) comes in.  They have to be GREEDY rich guys who don't mind cheating on income taxes to be able to profit from those kind of economics because a) they believe their wealth entitles them to being above the law most of us have to live with, which the courts often enforce, and b) they are the ONLY ONES who do profit from it because they are in industries that serve government interests, like military or other contracts.
Outright lies haven't worked with everyone every time. I still can't believe that anyone believed the 'swift boat' strategy propaganda that was all BULLSHIT against John Kerry. After he exposed Dick Cheney for telling us that Saddam Hussein attacked us on nine eleven during the debate the two of them had and mentioned that Dick's daughter must find it hard to have a dad who works for someone who thinks gays are being gay by choice and living in sin, I thought they, the Bushites (the name even implies Bullshit), were finished - but they instead took their lying to a new level and many people were taken in by the "turd blossom" - Karl Rove.

But the Republican strategists have learned one sure fire method of how to control people (besides news media fear propaganda like FAUX NEWS). They found a demographic that they can control, which is, to their great displeasure, depleting and becoming less and less. You will notice if you look at the numbers of RELIGIOUS PEOPLE in the United States, that their numbers are growing less and less. People like Rick Santorum even blame education in teaching people the truth about science, nature, logic, history, geology, and astronomy that because they learn things that conflict with the bible (which are actually proven factual evidence) for being "Indoctrination Mills" that pump out non-religious people who have, as he puts it, NO FAITH. The evidence says one thing but he wants us to believe another. You might notice as soon as he started talking about that stuff, the rest of the GOP tuned him out (and basically silenced him) before he spilled the beans. They knew if he explained to people who are uneducated religious people who do everything based on the "faith in religious leaders" (who control the masses for the government, and therefore remain tax exempt), that FAITH equals belief in BULLSHIT that goes against any scientific evidence, facts, and logic that they would lose their foothold on some communities out there.
As was stated in the movie "Leap of Faith", "...When any place is as far down as these people are, then they have no place else to turn but TO JESUS".  This is why the Catholic Church loves third world countries that have teaming masses of starving people and why they are against stopping over population, which is why they are against birth control and abortion. If people weren't suffering, what would they have to pray about? You see places like this which are all trimmed and decorated with gold and silver while the people of the same church give their last few pennies, or pesos in this case, while half of them can't eat that day.
B16 at OL Lady Cathedral Leo Mexico Mar 25 2012.jpg

Faith that things will get better if we pray may make us feel better temporarily, but only by coincidence does that thing we are praying for come true. Many of us have tried to get something or do something that wasn't in the cards for us for years through prayer until someone of the clergy finally sat us down and explained that doesn't work. They have many excuses but the only logical one is that God does not become personally involved in a human life. I personally believe in a  higher power of a type that is more like the energy that flows inside us, is part of the universe and mother earth, but I don't believe in the "spook in the sky" that sits on clouds on a throne, watches each of us individually and gets involved in our everyday individual lives. (I believe we have to align our will with that of the higher energy source/divine intelligence of some kind.) He is the same guy they tell us watches our every move like some cosmic Santa Clause, keeps a list of who is bad or good. and who will either reward or punish us "someday". Sounds like Mitt Romney's campaign promises ("We will get back to you on that after the election.").  I contend that all religions contain mythology and that as thinking people we need to be wary of anyone trying to sell us something "Some Day".  I still love the quote from Henry David Thoreau that goes, "When you see a man approaching you with the obvious intention of doing you good, .... run for your life." That is how I view anyone who is trying to hard sell me on anything, whether actual sales people or self appointed authority figures.
When political strategists like the ones on the right continue to lie, they are going to lose. When they continue to deny climate science (during hurricanes) and try to get pandering morons like Pat Robertson to tell people that earthquakes are created by making pacts with the devil (that seems to be a common theme with him) instead of the fact that the tectonic plates are colliding beneath the earth's crust, then he is perpetuating mythology. You will notice the ignorant religious leaders like that are the same ones who cling to the Republican party and vice versa. You can draw your own conclusion. I think it is because if you find an empire that is already being run by mythological figures, then you have two choices. Either you attempt to explain the whole thing away to people who have been living in that belief for thousands of years and don't appreciate your help in the matter OR ,...
you can just walk up next to the guy who is spreading more mythological explanations that are complete nonsense, put your arm  around his shoulders, and then look at the crowd and say, "Yeah, just like he said, I am one of you and I believe that, too. Oh, and by the way, VOTE FOR ME."
The fact remains that for the past ten years running, people more and more are seeing through the pomp, ceremony, smoke and mirrors and instead of changing their ways and their product, the GOP just keeps trying to change the packaging.

My Letter To John McCain

Senator McCain,
First, you need to fix the Filibuster Rule: You have been screwing around doing nothing for four years and "We the People" are sick of it. Only on the first day of a new Senate term can the Filibuster be fixed or eliminated. For too long the Filibuster rule has been abused by Republican Senators, preventing Bills that can help "We the People" from getting passed. The reason the public is getting tired of the Republican Party is that they have been blocking (obstructing) any progress in congress following the lead of people like Mitch McConnell who is a disgusting human being and should be recalled the next chance we get. The pointing fingers and trying to blame the executive branch for what the legislative branch is doing won't fool anyone who understands enough civics to get through the sixth grade. As you, Senator John McCain said, "...the Tea Party Hobbits" think blocking progress and then trying to blame it on President Obama has become a constant. The Republicans in congress are conservatives who, as I understand, have many among their ranks that don't believe in evolution. If the Republican Party wants to survive, they are going to have to evolve. As Darwin said, "Adapt or Die". I know all about the McCain Feingold Act. I know that you Congressmen from Arizona want to be fair but to do that you can't follow your party as it self destructs at the whim of the Tea Party and the Libertarians who the GOP has gotten into bed with for votes. Instead of it helping you, it has turned Republicans into Democrats. Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan weren't extreme crazies and would not be able to be elected in today's Republican Party. It is pretty much game over for outmoded ideas and CATO institute failed financial policies and the "Trickle Down" mythology, much less the Grover Norquist tax cut magic bullet. Someone needs to start a call for the return to being the Party of Reason for the Republican Party. Hopefully you can and will try.
Thank You,
A concerned voter in Phoenix, AZ

YES WE DID!

Today, some of the people in America can relax. The election is over. I saw a cartoon of a family with the wife on the phone and the husband ready to jump out the window, with the caption, "Stand by, in a few minutes I will tell you whether to jump or not", while watching the television coverage of the election results. I realized that is how I felt. I used to believe that it didn't matter who was in office, the bureaucrats were the only ones in charge. Then I lived through eight years of the Bush administration that was a complete era of lies and deceit that was founded on lies and deceit and right now rather than pass a law that lying to the American people is a federal offense, these people who lie are considered to be "aggressively campaigning". Those of us who don't believe lying is a common place concept when informing the public, we don't think it is time to rest. To those of us who realize that media used as propaganda for corporate fascists that want us to believe corporations are people, too, it is just the beginning. It is going to be hard to top the first four years. In fact, it will be hard to top the first two. Rachel Maddow gave us a beautiful recap of the first two years last night.

I merely wish to add to this, in saying that last night, millions of dollars of Republican corporatism fascist ideologies and propaganda campaigns failed because we, as a nation, didn't let small minds win. To those of you who say that it doesn't matter whether or not you vote, I give this as a reply.
If people wanting to control our government for money in order to make bigger profits by not paying taxes don't care about giving back and doing something good with Americans except browbeating, intimidating, using us for slave labor and all because of their unlimited greed, get finally ousted from their thrones of influence because we don't let money buy our votes, because we don't let ourselves bow down to authoritarian rule, that we don't let ourselves become intimidated by allowing ourselves to abandon critical thinking, logic, facts, mathematics, science, and reality in the name of "following authority figures" that self appoint themselves to positions of aristocracy based on their inherited wealth, then we can't be controlled. To those of you who think it doesn't matter who you vote for, I salute you for being able to manipulate yourself into a position that most thinking people cannot attain. I only have one more thing to say to you and that is,

"Your problem is obvious!"

When Is Rupert Murdoch Going to be Stopped?

If he were an American, it would be different that he is completely misinforming people in favor of whatever the Koch Brothers want him to say. If he were an American we could just try him for treason or demand that the FCC shut him down for the lies he spreads for profit. The phone hacking scandal doesn't seem to be enough for the people who want to trust anything besides a black man in the White House to understand that Murdoch isn't our friend or a decent human being. The Koch brothers "global warming" big misinformation campaign is mainly surrounding the profits of the petroleum industry that they get paid for EVERY TIME someone uses their process for refining oil into gas, which is used by all the refineries in the U.S.. They make money from fossil fuels that our planet needs to be rid of to survive. So they are the main contributors of source for the climate change science denial propaganda. They actually paid a huge fee to the guy lead supposed "scientist" who supported the "climate science is a myth" theory without any actual proof, to do a lengthy scientific experimental investigation and when given the money to do the actual research he found the previous scientists were correct and that his own theories were wrong, to the dismay of the Koch brothers. He published his findings afterwards, making them look as childish as a two year old, screaming, "Mine, Mine, Mine!"
And still we don't seem to have people here who realize this all about destroying the United States. When that happens, only the rich moguls here will be running anything. The government will be powerless and basically mute. I realize this might sound apocalyptic to some people but it is honestly how far these people will go to act like a two year old with someone else's property, no matter how big or small, they always want more. This isn't a conspiracy theory, it is actually happening and they are trying to steal our election and with headlines like "Rupert Murdoch Warns Christie to Re-Declare for Romney"  at http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/03/rupert-murdoch-chris-christie-romney_n_2068630.html I have to wonder how this is allowed. The intimidation that is tantamount to extortion against a United States Governor falls under the heading of conspiracy to commit fraud and a state of corruption in the this country and I don't think we are able to afford to allow ourselves to be bought at this point. Look at Hurricane Sandy on the eve of the election as idiots like the Koch Brothers are still trying to play the "trust me" game with the American people.
The reason I will never trust anyone like that again is because everyday I see their lies and propaganda and Murdoch's influence has done nothing but take us down further. I think they are already betting or buying shares of the United States after they turn it into a third world country like India was before Gandhi. If this sounds to you like I am an extremist who doesn't understand the global world economy and the necessity to improve from the bottom up after it hits bottom, then you don't understand America.
We have been a nation of strong independent workers and farmers for a couple centuries so we aren't going to sell out to a bunch of foreign "wanna be" aristocrats that think their inheritances make them the "ruling class". They like Mitt Romney. If anyone can look at Mitt Romney's background and not see the word "entitlement" in every sentence he speaks, then you aren't paying close enough attention. The fact that a politician is lame enough to use the foreign propaganda publisher who calls himself a "tabloid news king" like Murdoch as an ally instead of outing him as an enemy to democracy shows just who Mitt Romney really is, despite the million faces he tries to wear on the campaign trail.

Know The Name Of Your Own Party

When looking at the names and definitions of the names of the two main political parties in America, there is a definite difference that most people don't realize. I will get into the other parties later. First, I will concentrate on the two main political parties.

Now as to what the words Republican and Democrat mean, I will stay with the simple dictionary terms of their root meanings. Republic and Democracy.
A Republic is: "...a state in which the supreme power rests in the body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by representatives chosen directly or indirectly by them." In other words, they want a government that is run by a group of authority figures and vote for their interests without their consent or knowledge.
A Democracy is: "...a state having such a form of government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system."  Which means Democratics (not the word Democrats that Republicans have called them), believe in the principles of the people deciding by voting and then their elected officials acting in their interests by what they people decide, not what the elected official decides.
One of the first things noted in today's parties is that some of the things that happened turned out strangely because of egos, the parties have changed. Today Liberals are considered to be Democrats and vice versa, the same way Conservatives are considered to be Republicans, which has reversed itself since the origin of the parties. (See Dixiecrats.)

When we look first at the words used to describe them, we see some things if we know anything about history. When Abraham Lincoln was president, conservatives were Democrats and liberals were Republicans. Let me explain the difference in those two words to begin with.
Conservative: when we are talking about a person being conservative, then what we mean, by dictionary definition is; "...disposed to preserve existing conditions, institutions, etc., or to restore traditional ones, and to limit change." So, if you are afraid of change, then you are conservative, no matter who you vote for or what you believe in. Some scientists have found definite differences among our species and genetic traits they say cause us to be a certain way and think a certain way. The online science journal "Scientific American" defines the unconscious reactions of the two types of people in their article. The brief summation is stated as: "...
The Fear Factor
Psychologists have found that conservatives are fundamentally more anxious than liberals, which may be why they typically desire stability, structure and clear answers even to complicated questions. “Conservatism, apparently, helps to protect people against some of the natural difficulties of living,” says social psychologist Paul Nail of the University of Central Arkansas. “The fact is we don't live in a completely safe world. Things can and do go wrong. But if I can impose this order on it by my worldview, I can keep my anxiety to a manageable level.”Anxiety is an emotion that waxes and wanes in all of us, and as it swings up or down our political views can shift in its wake. When people feel safe and secure, they become more liberal; when they feel threatened, they become more conservative. Research conducted by Nail and his colleague in the weeks after September 11, 2001, showed that people of all political persuasions became more conservative in the wake of the terrorist attacks. Meanwhile, in an upcoming study, a team led by Yale University psychologist Jaime Napier found that asking Republicans to imagine that they possessed superpowers and were impermeable to injury made them more liberal. “There is some range within which people can be moved,” Jost says. ..." and;
"...More practically, instead of trying to change people's emotional state (an effect that is temporary), astute policy makers might be able to phrase their ideas in a way that appeals to different worldviews. In a 2010 paper Irina Feygina, a social psychology doctoral student at N.Y.U. who works with Jost, found a way to bring conservatives and liberals together on global warming. She and her colleagues wondered whether the impulse to defend the status quo might be driving the conservative pooh-poohing of environmental issues.
In an ingenious experiment, the psychologists reframed climate change not as a challenge to government and industry but as “a threat to the American way of life.” After reading a passage that couched environmental action as patriotic, study participants who displayed traits typical of conservatives were much more likely to sign petitions about preventing oil spills and protecting the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
Environmentalism may be an ideal place to find common political ground. “Conservatives who are religious have this mind-set about being good stewards of the earth, to protect God's creation, and that is very compatible with green energy and conservation and other ideas that are usually classified as liberal,” Nail says. ..."
So, conservatives are born, not created. Unlike what they seem to believe to feel good about themselves, they are the ones who are less likely to take any risks whatsoever. And as the author says, everything else is usually classified as liberal because of the definition in reactions to it.
Now, the dictionary definition of a person who is liberal is: "...favorable to progress or reform, as in political or religious affairs." and "...favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, especially as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties." and "...favoring or permitting freedom of action, especially with respect to matters of personal belief or expression: a liberal policy toward dissident artists and writers."
Republicans are not always Republicans now. Republicans are sometimes Tea Party and Libertarians that couldn't find a voting base large enough to win an election for themselves, so they continue vote Republican, even when it's against their best interest. These are the people who think the word liberal is a negative insult while conservatives consist mainly of people with what my Critical Thinking courses would call "people who have blocks to critical thinking" because they 1) rely on authority figures who are extremists, or 2) have egocentric thinking and 3) ethnocentric thinking. As we have seen in the recent election campaigns, very often, authority figures can be dead wrong. Egocentric thinking, or what most of us call being "self centered", and in dictionary terms is: "... having or regarding the self or the individual as the center of all things: an egocentric philosophy that ignores social causes." and; "...having little or no regard for interests, beliefs, or attitudes other than one's own;self-centered: an egocentric person; egocentric demands upon the time and patience of others."
Ethnocentric thinking, put simply is racial or stereotype fear, or in dictionary terms: "...a tendency to view alien groups or cultures from the perspective of one's own."
Someone who has been taught from birth to "have faith in" or in simpler terms, "rely upon" any specific person or authority figure and/or type of person or type of authority figure has a block to critical thinking built in their psyche from birth. Someone who is going to have the ability to rebel against this thinking usually does so, even after years of indoctrination by supposed authority figures.
