My Response from Senator John McCain about The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge

Carefully notice that he is bitching about "this Admiration's practice of bypassing Congress through Presidential fiat." whatever the fuck presidential fiat means. He also spelled Administration ADMIRATION'S, proving once again that it doesn't take a lot of brains to run for congress.

Dear Mr. Walker:

Thank you for contacting me to share your views regarding the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR).  I appreciate hearing your concerns on this very important issue.

As you know, ANWR is over 19 million acres of landscape in northeastern Alaska that is administered by the United State Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS).  In 1980, Congress designated 7 million acres of the Refuge as "wilderness," which prohibits oil and natural gas production on those lands.  On April 3, 2015, President Obama sent a letter to Congress recommending that the remaining 12 million acres of ANWR be designated as wilderness.

While only Congress can make a final decision on what federal lands may be declared wilderness, the effect of a formal wilderness recommendation is that the USFWS must manage the land in the interim in ways that protects its "wilderness characteristic," likely making oil and gas development bureaucratically prohibitive.  Regardless of one's opinion about the environmental impacts of drilling in ANWR, a formal wilderness recommendation is de facto wilderness by Presidential order, and another example of this Admiration's practice of bypassing Congress through Presidential fiat.  Rest assured, I will keep your thoughts in mind as I carefully monitor this issue moving forward.

Again, thank you for sharing your views.  Please feel free to contact me on this or any other matter of concern.

        John McCain
        United States Senator
